I am particularly interested in receiving news items, and corrections to such things as club details. Pictures of local events are also welcome by e-mail attachment, and several people have sent me some. However, scanning facilities are available if anyone would care to lend me real pictures.
Another source of local chess news is the NCA Bulletin, published five times a year (Nov, Jan, Mar, May & Sept). Copies of many previous editions may be ordered through any NCA club for £5, or posted individually for £6-50, from the editor John Wheeler (johndwheeler@blueyonder.co.uk). [Note that most items which have appeared here, are now on the Old News pages. This prevents this page becoming too cluttered with out of date items. They are moved after approx. four weeks, unless they are still topical.]
The Kings Chess Club will once again be running a series of different types of event on Tuesday evenings during July and August.
On July 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th and August 3rd, 10th and 17th there will be 15 minute per player rapidplays, 4 or 5 rounds starting at 7.15 p.m.
Entry to the Eldon Leisure is £1.65 payable to reception on each occasion. Entry to the rapidplays will be £1 per week. All the £1 entry fees will be returned as prize money on August 17th
Points scored will be the best 5 from 7 events.
On the final two Tuesdays, August 24th and 31st we will hold the NCA Blitz and Lightning Championships. Entry to these is free (but you must still pay the £1.65 at reception). (12/6/10)
Most of the results of the Summer KO first round are now available, with the draw for the Quarter Finals of the KO and Plate via the League etc link on the left. (11/6/10)
There will be a Heaton Rapidplay tournament on Sat 19 June, see the Local Calendar page for more details. (7/6/10)
Following the AGM on 20/5/10, the NCA Officials page has been updated. (29/5/10)
The Preliminary Round draw for the Summer KO competition is now available via the 'League etc' link on the left and the first match has now taken place. (22/5/10)
The three winners of the NCA Individual Championships are now decided:

Storey 6/7, half a point ahead of Dean Graham.
